Hello! My name is Meggie, and I am a "born and bred" skier-meets-farmer from the UK. I have had a lot of work experience with children, ranging from an academic/teaching focus, to a pastoral, caregiving domain. I also specialised in developmental psychology whilst at Cambridge. I am looking to leave London, and the mountains has always been where I thrive best; combined with my love for working with children, enthusiasm and energy to get involved, I am keen to get a position in child-care this winter.

Experience

Teaching Assistant at Chepstow House School, Notting Hill – September 2019 – present • I am currently working full-time as Year 2 TA, in a class of 20 pupils. My primary responsibilities include: sole care for my class on break and lunch duties, the presentation and organisation of their multiple subject books, help in lesson preparation and marking, and also the regular teaching of certain topics. • This role has improved my ability to multi-task and juggle many high priority jobs simultaneously and flexibly, to tight deadlines. Student Support to a family in Cambridge – October 2014 – August 2019 • Through University I was assigned to give extra support to a family, where one of the children has autism. This showed me the importance of dedication and enthusiasm in a role, and how vital it is to be committed and a stable, long-term source of support in specific cases Nanny, Cambridge - November 2017 - March 2018 • Full time position caring for 3 young children. My duties included organising educational and fun activities, attending social groups, feeding and cleaning, and in general, being attentive to each child’s specific needs. • This role developed my ability to be available and ‘on alert’ at all times; it also tailored my ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Teacher at Camford Summer School, China - July 2016 – August 2016 • Fixed-term contract. Alongside a team of other native English-speakers I had the opportunity to teach classes of up to 30 students how to speak English as a second language. • I was able to develop my skills of working in a team with my fellow teachers, but also had the independence to interact with and teach my own classes as the principal teacher. Volunteer and Assistant Teacher at Abbotsholme School - September 2012 – June 2017 • I began working for Abbotsholme as a student when I was a farmhand on the weekends. Since then I have taken on numerous positions including volunteering in the Dyslexia centre, assisting in weekly classes in primary and secondary settings, helping prepare students for interview and designing the school logo.

  • Meg is a friendly, outgoing person who gets on well with everyone she meets. She is smart, hard working and dedicated, and will commit herself to every job.
  • Meg worked with our three children for about 4 years. She always connected with our kids in a special way, showing them love and being willing to help with any need they had. She was also able to relate with our middle son with autism and handle his difficulties with confidence and patience. She also followed our instructions diligently. She is very good at coming up with fun activities and highly qualified in helping with academic needs.
  • I am writing in support of Meg Fairclough who is applying to holiday childcare with your organisation. I have known Meg as her graduate tutor since October 2018 when she came up to Selwyn College, Cambridge, to read for the MPhil in Bio Science specializing in Psychology. She has made a very positive impression on me. She is a conscientious student, aiming to complete all work to a high standard in good time. She approaches her subject broadly and also in great depth. She is proactive in finding additional resources. She achieved excellent results in her undergraduate studies coming fifth in the class ranking in her first year, and completing the course with an overall First. I am sure that she is as diligent in all her endeavours as she is in her studies. She has also gathered work experience outside her studies. On a personal level, Meg is a pleasant student with a friendly and polite demeanor, who easily interacts with others.
