Experience & Qualifications

Introduction:

I am a 22 year old linguistics student from Southampton, I have always been interested in the study and teaching of languages and speak French, Japanese some German and some Dutch. During my last ski season I was employed as a receptionist for a ski school but the part of the work I enjoyed most was running the Lunch Club and babysitting for the clients as I met a lot of really lovely families. Due to this I have decided to work the 2015/2016 season doing work that I really enjoy.

I am a good skier and would be happy to take children out on some easy slopes if parents are comfortable with it (although I am no ski instructor!) apart from that I have found sledging and snow man competitions are great fun for children of all ages.

In my spare time I love baking and trying new recipes from the different areas of France I have traveled in. I also enjoy sculpture and have found making and decorating clay models with children is a good way to engage them.

This winter I will be living in Les Arcs 1800 for the whole ski season with my boyfriend who runs a ski hire shop. Thank you for considering me and hope you have a nice holiday!

Qualifications:

I have a degree in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Kent. Also A levels in English Language, English Literature, French, Sociology and a GCSE in Japanese. Whilst at school I completed the JSLA sports leadership award and at university took basic first aid training.
Experience:

In 2009 I assisted at an Infant School in Southampton translating for French transfer students and helping them adapt to the English school system. They were all between the ages 5 of 8.

I was a nanny and French tutor for English 2 boys aged 6 and 8 in 2010. This mainly involved creating games for them to learn new vocabulary and make learning the language as fun as possible.

In 2013 I babysat on a weekly basis for two French children. A boy 5 and a girl 8 living in Canterbury as their parents wanted them to practise their English with someone who could correct them accurately.

During the winter season of 2014/2015 I was a receptionist for Oxygène Ski School in La Plagne. I was responsible for running the Lunch Club which ran every week Sunday to Friday. This involved collecting up to ten children from the ages of 3 to 14 from the base of the ski slope as they were finishing morning lessons, taking them to a nearby restaurant for the afternoon meal and then supervising an activity such as sledging or snowman building until the afternoon ski lessons started.

While in the La Plagne ski resort I was asked to babysit several times a week by parents who had seen how much their children enjoyed the Lunch Club. This would usually be in the afternoons for the children under 5 who could not take ski lessons all day or for babies from 6 months old who were too young to participate at all in lessons.

During the Lunch Club I was responsible for up to 10 children at a time and when employed privately by parents the largest number was 7 including a 6 month old.

"Just back from a fabulous week in Les Arcs 2000, made even better by having Rowena looking after our 4 year old and 3 month old. Both children loved her and she dealt with them both brilliantly, even though the little one was a little grumpy most of the time! She was kind but firm, reminded us of Mary Poppins straight away! She was also very knowledgeable about the area and gave us lots of fantastic advice - in fact my husband often had to drag me out of the apartment in the morning as I'd be chatting away to her. We both felt totally comfortable leaving our children in her care and would not hesitate to work with her again.

"We had an amazing time thank you.

Rowena was great with the kids and very quickly identified how to click with each of them. We had 8 children between 3 families between the ages of 3 and 8 and Rowena worked very well with the other nanny we had for the week.

"Rowena was very punctual and presentable each day. The boys really enjoyed her company and she entertained them well. When we needed to slightly amend our plans she was flexible and accommodating. All in all we were able to relax and enjoy our skiing knowing that the children were safe and happy. I would not have any hesitation in recommending Rowena as a Nanny.

"Rowena is a very kind and gentle person and my son who is 3 absolutely loved her. Even on those evening when he would wake whilst she was baby sitting I would come home to them cuddled up on the sofa. He never seemed to mind us not being there when Rowena baby sat, which is not always the case! I can not recommend her highly enough to those parents cautious about leaving their little ones in the hands of a stranger. She is a very capable nanny and is in high demand for her services, for her kind manner and for the peace of mind she offers parents. "

"Rowena has looked after my two children on numerous occasions ( a two year old and 6 month old baby). rowena is fantastic with children, kind and firm, she organised age appropriate activities to do with my children and they were more than happy to be left with her.
She is confident, reliable and mature beyond her years, i have absolutely no doubts recommending her to other parents. A fantastic young woman.
