Experience & Qualifications

Introduction:

I have been teaching in the UK for two years, having worked in Tignes for a season before qualifying as a teacher. My partner and I decided this year that we wanted to get back out to mountain life, and I want to continue working with young people. I am a competitive sailor and a keen skier/snowboarder. I love books, film and music. My previous career working in children's publishing helped me fall in love with children's books, and the art of storytelling. I'm excited to start living and working in the Alps, looking for nanny work and tutoring work.
Qualifications:

I am a qualified secondary school English teacher, with a PGDE (Canterbury Christ Church University), a master's (University College London) and a BA (Queen's University Belfast). I am also an RYA qualified sailing instructor with first aid training.
Experience:

I have been teaching sailing to children and young people for 10 years, at times fully responsible for up to 20 children on the water aged 4-18. As a teacher I have been responsible for classes of up to 35 students. I babysat my cousins and children of local families for years as a teenager, including toddlers.

"I have worked alongside Jane for the last two years in my capacity as her university tutor; in this capacity, I have observed her teach secondary school pupils, and supported her academic development. She has always been highly professional, kind and considerate in her dealings with colleagues and children alike. She is extremely likeable, very engaging and goes 'above and beyond the call of duty' in her work life.
Do feel free to get in touch if you require further information.

All the best,

"I worked with Jane from September 2019 through to July 2019 in the role of her development lead as she progressed through the second year of her teacher training on the Teach First programme.

Jane is an excellent teacher; her energy and enthusiasm are boundless in the classroom and this is just one of the many ways in which she engages her pupils in their learning. She brings creativity to her lessons so that pupils are not constantly learning in the same way, she models concepts effectively and she differentiates resources to enable pupils to access their learning. Jane’s subject knowledge is very strong but she is able to make this knowledge accessible and engaging for those she is teaching. She establishes a very positive rapport with her pupils and they clearly make strong progress in her lessons. I think any pupil would be very lucky to find themselves being taught by Jane.

Please feel free to contact me if you require any further information.

Best wishes,
Brian
