Experience & Qualifications

My boyfriend (30) and I have taken a year out from our professional roles to embark on a travelling adventure around Europe, we are currently in the Austrian alps and thought there is no better time like the present to experience the a ski season in Les Trois Vallées!

We are from a small village in North Wales, not from from the English boarder of Chester. There is lots of outdoor activities in Wales that we enjoy, such as climbing Snowdon, kayaking on the River Dee and rock climbing. I have recently become proficient with using a DSLR camera and love taking landscape photographs.

I am a fully qualified Speech and Language Therapist after completing an NHS funded BS degree at The University of Manchester. I gained a 2:1 class mark overall and a 1st class mark during the placements, which included organising small groups of four children with their parents to teach families positive communication strategies via play.

I also have lots of experiencing caring for my friends and families young children, and thrive from teaching them new concepts and fun games.

Working as a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist required me to formally assess, diagnose, treat, manage and discharge children that were experience speech and/ or language difficulties (for instance, stammering, phonological disorders, social communication difficulties). I would typically provide therapy to eight different children per day either in the home, clinic or school setting, meaning that having excellent organisational skills was essential.

More recently I have worked with children between the ages of 2;6- 5 years of age, meaning that achieving therapy objectives in a thirty-minute time frame could be challenging to say the least! In order to maintain attention span it was important to make tasks fun and exciting, thus, I was constantly required to be creative and resourceful. Therapy sessions included playing imaginary games, using play doh and board games whilst incorporating a little bit of work. I believe this experience demonstrates that I am more than comfortable to playand create games to entertain children.

In addition to providing therapy to children whom were experiencing communication difficulties, I was required to teach teaching staff, parents and carers their role in providing therapy as homework for the child to make greater advances with their therapy goals quicker. For this role it was vital that I was able to communicate with a range of different people and adjusting my approach as per required.

I absolutely love working with children and I have a very caring approach.

My References

Reference Received from: Jan Jenkins

"Michaela was employed as a Speech and Language Therapist in BCU East area from October 2017 to May 2018. Prior to that she worked in BCU Central area. Michaela worked with children with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs, in a variety of settings including clinics and schools. She was required to manage her caseload independently but was able to access support and supervision from the team. Working with a broad caseload necessitated using a range of skills and techniques to motivate and involve the children, in order to achieve the desired outcomes. Michaela completed her competencies to join the full practice register while she was with us. Michaela engaged well with the children and their parents, and also the wider team such as health visitors and teaching staff."

" Michaela has done a fantastic job of babysitting my grandchildren over the past 5 years. She is reliable, competent and ensures the children in her care have a nice time. I feel confident she is the type of person you are looking for as I have found children tend to gravitate towards her. She trained to be a child speech therapist so has had the relivent checks to work with children.
