Experience & Qualifications

Introduction:

Having completed my A Levels (and achieved grades BBC grades) this summer I am starting my gap year with waitressing and bar work in The Foley Arms Hotel and Pub in Claygate. My medium term goal for this coming year, however, is to work a ski season in the French Alps.

I am passionate about ski-ing and have been lucky enough to be taken on regular ski trips since I was three years old. In recent years I have been envious of people working in the ski resorts, to be able to live and work in a mountain sk-ing environment for several months of the year. I am under no illusions that it is hard work but an excellent work ethic and bubbly, exuberant personality are attributes I believe would be serve me and any potential employer well.

My work experience to date includes child care as well as customer facing hotel work. I began babysitting for local families around five years ago and for the last two years have worked regular shifts for Clubland, an afterschool childcare company for primary aged children as well as providing ad hoc nanny support for a 12 year old boy.

The Clubland role is wide-ranging and includes cooking tea for the children, organising creative play sessions, running physical activities and games as well as providing one-to-one development support time. I have been told I have a natural ability to bond with the children and am particularly skilled at making the play sessions fun and spontaneous. The job requires a high level of team work as well as being able to work on our own initiative.

At the Foley Arms I work 30 – 40 hours a week in the busy restaurant and bar, waiting at and clearing tables and taking orders for food and drink. The role involves dealing with diners as well as bar customers which has honed my people skills, in both positive and conflict situations. My welcoming personality and natural ability to talk to people of all ages has played a big part in my now being a valued member of the hotel team.

I believe the skills and experience I have would make me well suited for a number of roles within a ski resort service including kids rep, resort co-ordinator, hotel assistant. My commitment and reliability who successfully combines hard work with professional, responsible fun.
