Experience & Qualifications

Introduction:

In my working career I have experience of working as an engineer on the Southern Bypass project for Costain, before going to university and getting my degree in Sports Business Management. As well as this I have also worked as a lifeguard, this is where I gained my first aid skills which are still of great use to this day.
As someone who enjoys sport, I have many hobbies, I have played Semi-professional football for many clubs including Cambridge City, Yaxley, Newmarket Town and Ely. I also enjoy cricket as well skiing.
It is the rewarding nature of childcare that draws me to working in the childcare industry this winter. I enjoy having a positive influence on a child's experience and love the opportunity to help develop their skills in all aspects in the limited time I have with them.
Qualifications:

I have 3 A- Levels in History (C) English (B) and Business (B). I have a degree in Sports Business Management, which I achieved at Leeds Beckett University.
From working as a lifeguard, I have good experience in First aid and am confident in using the skills I have when required.
Experience:

As the eldest of four, I have always enjoyed caring for and supporting my siblings. I started my experience babysitting for my own family and, from this, developed into looking after friends' and families’ children on many occasions. My passion for childcare developed as I found how vital it is for children to have well-mannered and kind adult influences. It was from this and my love for sport that I began to coach young local teams in cricket and football in Cambridgeshire, with groups of up to 20 children.

My professional experience in childcare started as a children’s swim instructor at One Leisure, St Ives. I was responsible for a large group of up to 12 children while in the pool, so had to be constantly vigilant due to the high-risk environment while remaining enthusiastic, encouraging all the children to be sensible while having lots of fun. During this role, I taught many children, ages 3 – 16 how to swim; I also hold experience in entertaining younger children from the age of 2. While working at One Leisure, I also took up the role of Centre Assistant, running and entertaining birthday parties and events. The parties had an attendance of up to 25 children, all of whom I had to keep the attention of during their visit. The role required my supervision of the children’s safety which was always my top priority in the hazardous environment.

I also worked in a similar role as a childcare assistant at David Robertson Ltd, where I ran activity days for children ages 2-16. The large age bracket meant I had to care for them in a variety of ways, from changing nappies to organising the day 8 am – 4 pm schedule, I always remained calm yet high-spirited. The days would consist of crafts, games, sports, and lunch every day and required my knowledge in holding the attention of all children, even when they had to participate in activities they had little interest in. It was always great fun and incredibly rewarding knowing that the children would return home to their parents having lots to talk about, eager for the next days they had with us all.

I am currently working at Cuckoo bridge (A nursery) and am currently helping run our Halloween event for children, organising activities for the children as well making sure they are all safe and happy whilst under my supervision.
