Experience & Qualifications

Introduction:

I am a 24 year old ecology graduate from the UK, with a wide range of experience of working with children, especially within the outdoors.

The outdoors is where I feel the most at home. I am currently working towards my mountain leader qualification, increasing my experience and expertise in mountainous landscapes, with the aspiration to guide others in the mountains and carry out conservation in remotes areas, such as the highlands. I enjoy winter mountaineering and undertaking conservation work in adverse weather conditions, such as in Iceland, Central America and Scotland. I have had experience in physical work, once an amateur heptathlete, I now enjoy climbing, trail running such as the South Wales Mountain Triathlon and multi-day expeditions in the Americas and UK.

I adore engaging children and young people in the natural world, as a qualified ecologist, and would love to educate, entertain and care for children in a beautiful place in the world.
Qualifications:

I am a CIEEM qualified ecologist after studying Natural History BSC at the University of South Wales, where I achieved a 1st class degree and prize for highest performing student.
My further qualifications include: Safeguarding & Health and Safety, Paddle Sport Rescue and Outdoor First Aid.
I have cared for groups of 20 children at at time as a co-leader for holiday kids clubs for 4 years. I have been responsible for 20 individuals aged 16-18 years at a time, whilst working for the National Citizen Service for 4 years.
Experience:

A significant amount of my past work experience has revolved around children and young people. At aged 15 I co-led holiday sport clubs for primary school children (5-12), providing an entertaining and safe place for children to move and be imaginative (approx. 30 individuals). I continued to run these ‘kid’s clubs’ every holiday in-between University terms, apart from the period of lockdown. The summer I graduated, I was granted freedom to take a forest school approach with the kid’s clubs, such as sensory and identification games and den building in the trees that lined the sport fields. Last spring the company Primary Forest Schools granted me further experience in co-leading large groups of primary school children (approximately 40 individuals) in a woodland setting, in activities such as bush craft, wild movement and art. Following this I volunteered as staff for the British Trust of Ornithology youth camp in Thetford, engaging and looking after young naturalists aged 11-16. I also have experience in Peru, caring for young infants of underage mothers whilst they attended school (a group of babies and toddlers of about 10).

During employment with NCS I led teams of 16–18-year-olds including neurodivergent young people, in outdoor adventure, skills activities and community projects, therefore I have had experience with a wide variety of ages and abilities and am adaptable in changing how I communicate between age groups and individuals.
