Experience & Qualifications

Introduction:

I am a mature mother whose boys have fled the nest allowing me the freedom so instruct scuba diving in the summer and spend my winters in the mountains. 2016 will be my fourth season in the Tarentaise Valley.
My previous experience was in customer service consultancy and training and I derive a great deal of pleasure in applying my learning to help ensure my guests have a great holiday.
I enjoy the company of children and find providing a clear structure with focussed attention whilst demonstrating I am listening and value their thoughts to be highly effective.
I would much rather be having fun and doing creative things than be stuck in long lift queues during peak periods. I am a strong advocate of outdoor physical exercise and encourage children in my care to participate where conditions make this appropriate. I am not a lover of children being glued to computer screens in solitary occupation but will use technology to engage them in co-operative games with others, such as the 'heads up' app, where appropriate.
I am a keen cook and am happy to prepare and provide meals, including accommodating dietary requirements and involving children in food preparation, where this is allowable under the chalet insurance.
I relish the opportunity to work with the same children over a week where we can get to know each other and develop our understanding. I am willing to babysit in the evening by mutual arrangement. I have my own reliable 4x4 with winter tyres and chains.
Qualifications:

I hold three degrees, two of them at Masters level by research.
B.A. (Hons) English and Philosophy
M.A. Management Learning
M.Phil Critical Management
I am very interested in learning processes, in addition to studying and being passionate about sports coaching I ran my own training and development company for several years
I also hold a 7307 teaching adult education and have achieved coach level qualifications in trampolining, paddlesports (Canoe and Kayak) Ski-ing and Scuba Diving.
I am qualified to teach First Aid and have current First Aid qualification.
I passed a basic safe food handling certification as part of a chalet cookery course in 2013
Experience:

I am the youngest child of a family of 6 children, all born within 7 years of each other with the sibling closest to me being severly affected by cerebral palsy.
I au paired in a ski resort in a french speaking part of Switzerland for four American children aged 9, 7 3 years and 18 months. I learnt conversational french here.
I had two sons, both of whom had Aspergers (a form of autism), including sensory challenges and special dietary needs
I founded and chaired a charity providing out of hours sports, social and leisure provision, including high risk activity, for children and young adults aged 2 - 18 affected by autism, ultimately being responsible for all the children, which at it's peak numbered more than 100 (rarely, but sometimes at the same time!!!!), we had the benefit of excellent volunteers for whom I designed and we delivered a comprehensive training programme. www.blackpooltiggers.com
As a chalet host I catered for and helped entertain children of my guests, including holding 'bake-ins' and snow sculpting competitions. Diets catered for included gluten and lactose free, vegetarian, egg intolerant etc.,
As a scuba diving instructor I take sole responsibility for children as young as 8.
As a qualified paddlesports coach with British Canoe Union and a qualified BASI coach, I hold a basic and enhanced CRB clearance and have delivered child protection training as part of my involvement in the charity and also taken several courses in child safeguarding and protection.

"My main concern when booking a nanny for our two young boys, a baby and a toddler, was that she would cope. Debra arrived each day full of smiles and ideas of things to do. It was amazing how much she fitted in to a few hours. Debra was herself from day one with us and the boys and was quite comfortable having fun with them but also using disapline when needed. Debra was also very flexible when organising hours and timings to meet as I was breastfeeding the baby. So a brilliant holiday was had by all - thank you Debra!

"Debra looked after our 3 month old whilst we were in the Alps. Immediately upon meeting her, we were put at ease as to her comfort with babies. The typical challenges of an old resort were no issue to Debra as our little man got to see much more of the place than when we had him. Heartily recommend using Debra- it will give you some time out and your child will love the time too!

"Debra was fantastic looking after our 6 children. She had researched what was going on in the area and had a plan of activities which she discussed with us in detail. I would have no hesitation in recommending her.

"Debra has a wonderfully engaging manner with children, and relates to them respectfully and on their level. My son has special needs and can be difficult to engage, but from our first meeting Debra had him laughing and chatting. He absolutely loves it when Debra looks after him. She has a never ending supply of jokes and stories which will keep any child (or adult) in stitches.

As well as being fun to have around, Debra is conscientious and responsible, and she would be one of an extremely small number of people I would trust to care for my child in a ski resort environment.
